NTHP Midwest Office - June 2011 Grant Alert - Ohio

Preservation Grant Deadline approaching on June 1st!

Rankin House_JSandy_Jul10.JPGThe National Trust for Historic Preservation is now accepting applications for a matching grant program available for projects in Ohio (shown below).  If you are interested in applying for our grant, now is the time to contact the National Trust’s Midwest Office to discuss your potential project and obtain assistance with the application process. We strongly encourage applicants to work with our office and submit drafts of their applications for review and comment in advance of the deadline.

Please note that this fund is for planning grants only - the costs associated with actual “bricks and mortar” restoration of a structure would not be fundable.  Applicants must be non-profit organizations or public agencies to qualify for our grant programs. Please be aware that applicants for the Jeffris Heartland Fund are competing with a regional pool of applicants.

The Jeffris Heartland Fund was established by the Jeffris Family Foundation to support the development of important nationally significant historic preservation projects in the states of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The fund makes grants in the range of $5,000 to $50,000 for Historic Structure Reports and other advanced planning studies. Funds must be matched dollar-for-dollar with cash from sources unrelated to the National Trust and the Jeffris Family Foundation. Established 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations or government agencies in partnership with a 501(c)(3) organization are eligible to apply.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate the viability of their project through the submittal of early planning studies, and must be ready for the preparation of a Historic Structure Report, or other advanced planning studies, leading toward a community-centered capital fund drive.  Projects in communities with more than 150,000 in population are NOT eligible to apply. Priority will be given to projects located outside of metropolitan areas.  Visit the Midwest Office website to find more information on the Jeffris Heartland Fund and to see examples of funded projects.  Please see the Jeffris Heartland Fund Criteria for Project Selection for more details on eligibility requirements.  The Jeffris Heartland Fund application is available from the National Trust website.

Feel free to contact Jennifer Sandy, the National Trust’s Ohio Program Officer, if you have any questions or require additional information about our grants. She would be happy to discuss potential projects with you.
