SouthEastern Ohio Business to Business Network

Part of the Ohio Business to Business Network

Hi ya'll. I would like to address the photos on the main page. First, a question: do i have any control over which photos end up on the front page? How does almost every photo i put on my page end up in the tediously long line of photos on the main page? Have I done something in error somewhere to limit it to just 2 or 3 on the main page?

If i didn't miss something, I think the front page slide show should have a limit of 2 or 3 pics of each member, maximum-  and when we upload specifically to that front page, we can put our name or something on the raw so it shows on the slide so someone can find us and our work on our own specific page.

As it is now, there is just too much to sit there and watch through- and no one can tell who anybody's work is. Like that cool little store- I'd really rather not see everything in their inventory ''there." But I'd be happy to go to their page and see it. And i really don't want to see everything I post either---unless i go to my page.

I also think we ought to be aware of, and keep up with, the removal of long-past seasonal photos on the front page...like cute Christmas kids. Seems to me they are great for an album but not forever on this business network front page- besides, many of us are glad Christmas is over for a while....

Anyway, please advise me on how to place photos correctly. I am still kind of new at this stuff. Thanks, Loran

If the photos are viewed only by friends or myself in the main page, is the viewing effected in anyway on mypage? Also you can see information about the photos by putting the mouse over the little i in the photo view control. One thing that has not been address, probably since this site is just growing, is what is the purpose of photos anyway? In my case it to show potential customers my works and what I am capable of creating so that I can make sales and earn money. I think some sort of more formal guidelines are needs as this site gets more business users. Are non business intended photos approprate like home photos, poltical causes, human interest photos? I am not making any suggestions just asking questions.

Thanks Ellen. If am reading this correctly then, i do not have any control over the placement of photos on the main home page unless i have limited (contextual verb) access to photos to only my friends? That seems kind of odd to me.

I am with Jeff on the issue of the purpose of this site: realizing that "social networking" is in the site's mission statement, i thought the underlying intent was to enhance the exposure of our individual efforts so John Q. Public could find out how and where to "get something done" that would not otherwise be easily available.

Ergo, i return to my original idea about only showing a couple of photos from each member on the home page slide show. I humbly suggest one new link on the photo edit page to include, "Would you like to add this photo to the home page slide show? Space is limited to 2 photos so pick your present highlights and change them often!" Without rambling even further, suffice it to say that i think this would enhance activity on several different levels.
Thanks, Loran~

I think your right about limiting the number on the main page, 3 would be plenty. On the My Page you can have as many as necessary. I have another web site that is exclusively for my art works so I can upload unlimited images there.

Hi Jeff. yes i have a few other "places to be" also.
Thanks to Tom's site building ( i suppose), my work is even fairly represented on Google, even if only my first name and some nearby town are entered~~. Go figger. Ain't no hiding now!!~~~
Anyway, glad you agree about home page content. It'd be nice if some others would chime in also...
