New Face at The Athens Real Estate Company .... and its ME

I recently took over the Office Manager position at the Athens Real Estate Company in Athens. It has been a wonderful transition so far and I'm so glad to be a part of a business such as this. The building is working towards LEED certification (tours available) and they have a major upper-hand in advertising techniques/strategies. last Friday

We had the health dept inspect us this past Friday. Fruits and veggies are okay, and baked goods are okay as long as you label them per regulations, but if you want to sell a couple dozen eggs at a market, you need a retail food establishment license, which is $125 or maybe $142, no one was sure. And your flock has to be inspected by the USDA, which they do for FREE! So no eggs at our market for now. Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since I posted a blog. It's been a busy summer, and it's going by so fast. We added credit card sales to the shop, but I haven't seen any extra sales because of it. The algae bloom at Burr Oak hasn't affected sales any either, I guess if you're going camping or fishing, a little algae just adds color I had some land clearing done here, It really opens up the place, but now there's more to mow! 4/19/10

Talking to one of the owners of Brew Du Soleil today (it is a small world), I discovered that they don't just sell coffee, but also iced teas flavored with their homemade organic syrups. So since I had to go over to E State this afternoon anyhow, I stopped in and got a strawberry flavored iced tea. It's really really good- it isn't the heavy syrup you get at Bob Evans, but a light, almost flowery flavor. Peach, raspberry and lavender are are on my list to try, not necessarily in that order.

Artists coming to Athens

The Ohio Plein Air Society is hosting a landscape painting event in Athens this coming Saturday to paint the beautiful blossoms and foliage of Athens. Aren't the redbud trees just gorgeous, all of state route 78 from my baitshop almost into Mcconnelsville is lined with them. Makes it easy to forget the snows of February. It is definitely fishing season! I sold out my first three pounds of minnows in just a few days. I don't know if I'm doing something right, or if I've just been lucky so far, but minnow deaths have been low so far. 2/27/10

More snow- I posted a video on youtube of my husband plowing our driveway. (www.youtube.com/burroakoutfitters) My shop has mostly been closed the last 2 months. Ugh, I hate the way my yard looks after the snow melts. Mushy and squishy to walk thru, things I meant to put up but forgot to laying all droopy. Little bits of things my dog has dragged out- paper and bits of plastic she chewed up, and some things I don't want to get close enough to to identify. On the other hand, now is the time to actually see where I'd like to make improvements- new flower beds, a rock garden, the berry bushes I've planned on planting for 2 years. Continue

Wed thru Fri of last week was the ATA trade show- ATA being the Archery Trade Association. I've been a member for 3 years now. The show was held in Columbus this year, making it convenient when it turned out we couldn't go up all three days. This show is archery's biggest trade show- manufacturers, factory reps, and celebrity spokespeople were there. best of all it's closed to the public, only legitimate archery business people.
