Aren't the redbud trees just gorgeous, all of state route 78 from my baitshop almost into Mcconnelsville is lined with them. Makes it easy to forget the snows of February. It is definitely fishing season! I sold out my first three pounds of minnows in just a few days. I don't know if I'm doing something right, or if I've just been lucky so far, but minnow deaths have been low so far. I discovered the hard way that bass minnows don't fare so well in the bait machine- they're bigger than crappie minnows, and apparently there isn't enough oxygen in the cups. What, you say, minnows in a machine? Yep, cups full of live fish, just waiting to bait your hook and catch bigger fish. I have a video from last summer, of a girl who makes her companion buy more worms out of the machine, so she can take a picture of him doing it. It runs about half and half of people who think the bait machine is a really unique idea, and people who have encountered them before.

I'm attending an open house at Morgan school tomorrow night, it's an archery exhibit by the youth archery team, and I'm setting up a booth. I'm going to give a percentage of any sales to the club, so this will probably cost me more than I make, but it's good publicity, and NASP archery is a cause I believe in. Plus, these people actually come into my shop and buy things, they don't just pick a number out of the phone book and call me up asking for donations.

On a personal note, my brand new copy of Elizabeth Peters' newest novel came yesterday! I can't wait to see what Amelia and her family are up to now.
